Searching the Stevens County Court Docket
Figuring out which court holds the file comes first. Every Stevens County court docket search starts there. Felonies, major civil claims, probate, guardianship, judgments, and domestic matters live in Superior Court. Its records are searched through the Washington Courts Odyssey Portal. Misdemeanors, infractions, small claims, and limited civil cases sit with District Court. It also handles municipal matters routed from Chewelah, Colville, Kettle Falls, and Springdale. Northport is absent from the state directory's municipal routing line. Its tickets call for direct confirmation of venue.
Bring the exact party name and a rough filing year, plus the court level. A full case number works even better. Superior Court numbers follow XX-X-XXXXX-XX, hyphens included. One caution: a register entry can name an event while its document stays offscreen. Jot the event title and date down before you call the clerk.
- Identify Superior Court, District Court, or a routed municipal matter.
- Search Odyssey for Superior Court or Washington Courts Case Search for a lower-court case.
- Enter the exact case number or a party name in the portal's required format.
- Confirm Stevens County, case type, file date, and location.
- Read Events, Hearings, and Disposition Events separately.
- Call or visit the correct clerk when the online record is incomplete.
Stevens County Docket Search Fields
Odyssey Smart Search takes either a full number or a name typed Last, First Middle. A common surname can pull up a long statewide list. Open Advanced Filtering Options first. Pick Stevens under Court Location by County. Then add case type, status, filing dates, or judicial officer. Sounds Like rescues uncertain spellings. The official guide warns it will not pair with a wildcard.
| Field | Use | Local detail |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Search | Number or name | Keep hyphens or use Last, First Middle |
| Court Location | County filter | Select Stevens |
| Case Type | Narrow record class | Choose a supported public category |
| File Date | Limit broad names | Enter start and end dates |
| Judicial Officer | Limit by judge | Use when assignment is known |
Each row displays the case number, file date, type, location, and party name. Click the linked case number to open case-level navigation. Treat the row as a locator only. It is not the full Stevens County docket.
Inside a Stevens County Court Docket
Read a register in order. The header block comes first. It lists court, number, filing date, type, caption, party roles, judicial officer, and status. Then work through Events as a timeline. Hearings hold the settings, and Disposition Events summarize recorded outcomes. A filing entry only proves the clerk recorded an item. It proves neither that a judge granted the request nor that the document is online.
| Case number | The unique identifier and case-type code. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Public names and roles such as plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, or respondent. |
| Events | Filings, orders, notices, pleas, continuances, and transfers. |
| Hearings | Date, time, type, place, and judicial officer when public. |
| Disposition | Dismissal, judgment, conviction, sentence, satisfaction, or closure. |
| Documents | Filed papers may require a separate clerk request. |
Public fields shift with case type and access rules, and identifiers should be masked. Juvenile, sealed, protected family, adoption, mental-health, and dependency material may appear limited or not at all.
Stevens County Docket Number Anatomy
In a Superior number, the middle digit flags the case class. Type 1 is criminal, 2 civil, and 3 domestic. Type 4 covers probate or guardianship, 5 adoption or parentage, 6 mental illness or alcohol, 7 juvenile dependency, 8 juvenile offender, and 9 judgment. The county exhibit 24-3-00001-33 shows the domestic format in action. Such codes separate records that share a name.
- Register of Actions
- The dated list of filings, acts, hearings, and outcomes.
- Setting
- A scheduled appearance with a date, place, and purpose.
- Continuance
- A move from one setting to a later date.
- Disposition
- The recorded result or closing status.
- Certified copy
- A complete document authenticated by the clerk.
District and municipal records may carry JIS identifiers that break the Superior pattern. Copy the number exactly as the state result, notice, or ticket shows it.
Courts That Keep Dockets in Stevens County
Washington splits Stevens County dockets between Superior Court and courts of limited jurisdiction. Stevens County Superior Court sits in the Tri-County Judicial District. Ferry and Pend Oreille counties join it there. It stays the general-jurisdiction court for Stevens matters. District Court keeps its own register and supplies state-listed municipal court service for four incorporated places.
| Court | Docket covers | Search path |
|---|---|---|
| Superior Court | Felony, major civil, domestic, probate, judgment | Odyssey and County Clerk |
| District Court | Misdemeanor, infraction, limited civil, small claims | JIS, daily docket, District Clerk |
| Municipal service | Chewelah, Colville, Kettle Falls, Springdale | District Court and JIS |
| Juvenile Court | Offender, dependency, diversion, truancy | Tri-County Juvenile Department |
An appeal can open a second record. Infraction appeals go to Superior Court, which reviews the District record rather than holding a new trial. Further review may reach the Washington Court of Appeals, Division III.
Two Stevens County Docket Clerks
Asking for "the clerk" can land your request in the wrong room. The elected Stevens County Clerk serves as Clerk of the Superior Court. That office keeps the court's filings, orders, judgments, and recordings. The District Court Clerk is a separate office. It maintains limited-jurisdiction criminal, civil, infraction, small-claims, and routed municipal records. A ticket naming a city does not make city administration the custodian.
Both offices share 215 South Oak Street in Colville. Room 206 handles Superior records at 509-684-7575. Room 213 handles District Court at 509-684-5249. Listed public windows run weekdays from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Requests can come by phone, mail, or the office's published electronic channel. Ask whether a public terminal is open for viewing.
Note: Give the full case number when possible. Otherwise provide a party name, filing year, case type, and short document description.
How to Find Court Dates and Settings
A Stevens County hearing date can surface in four places: the Odyssey or JIS hearing block, the Tri-County public calendar, the District daily docket, or direct confirmation. Each display serves a different purpose. The county cautions that its public calendar lists trials and special settings but skips regular docket detail. Odyssey remains the official Superior Court docketing system.
For a date-focused Superior search, use Odyssey Search Hearings. Select Stevens, pick a public hearing type, enter a party, business, or attorney criterion, and set a range. District dates often start on a ticket or summons. The daily docket and Washington Courts Find My Court Date can help, but the District Clerk is the fallback. After any reset, check the newest hearing entry and court notice. An old date can linger in history.
Stevens County Docket Calendar Limits
The Tri-County Superior Court calendar offers month, week, day, and list views. Filters narrow things by officer and location. An event may carry a date, time, courtroom, officer, and a trial or special-setting description, which adds helpful context across the three-county district. Still, it is not the case register.
When displays differ: use the current Odyssey hearing entry, filed notice, or direct clerk confirmation instead of an old calendar description.
Local patterns explain a setting. But they never prove a date. Superior civil and family matters tend toward a Tuesday morning docket. District criminal arraignments and first appearances cluster on Monday afternoons. The case notice always controls.
Public Access to Court Dockets
Court dockets in Washington answer to court rules, not to a single public-records office. In Stevens County, you can run a docket search online. You can also use courthouse terminals. Or ask the clerk for what you need. GR 31 presumes public access but allows limits set by law, court order, or rule. Viewing is free at the courthouse. Copies and certification cost money.
Key rules:
Washington GR 31 governs court-record access and redaction.
Washington GR 15 governs sealing, destruction, and redaction.
Washington GR 22 limits access to defined family, guardianship, protection, and therapeutic records.
RCW 13.50.050 supplies a juvenile confidentiality framework.
GR 31.1 governs judicial administrative records only. It will not get you a complaint, judgment, order, or docket; those come from the clerk holding the case.
Stevens County Docket Search Gaps
A dead-end docket search does not mean the case is gone. Fix the spelling. Drop or add a middle name. Keep hyphens intact, widen the date range, and double-check the court level. Superior cases live in Odyssey. A District or routed municipal matter may sit in JIS instead. It may also need a call to Room 213. Washington's public Odyssey interface marks citation-number search unavailable.
Older or archived cases may require a clerk search. Restricted files can vanish from public view. Juvenile records, sealed files, adoptions, mental-health cases, dependency matters, and protected family papers all carry special limits. Ask the clerk whether the file is archived, restricted, sealed, or held by the other court. Give just enough facts to identify it without sending private identifiers.
Note: The online docket is only an index. Filed documents, images, financial fields, or archived entries may not appear.
Docket Records at the Clerk's Office
For Superior copies, the Stevens County Clerk needs a case number, or a party name plus a short description if the number is unknown. Say whether you want electronic, physical, certified, or exemplified copies. A certified copy must cover the whole document. The clerk quotes price and delivery first.
| Copy type | Published rate |
|---|---|
| Electronic | $0.25 per page |
| Physical | $0.50 per page |
| Certified | $5 first page, $1 each added page |
| Exemplified | Certified cost plus $4 |
District Court charges $0.50 per staff page and $0.25 per electronic page. Certification adds $5 per document plus $1 for each added page. Schedules can change, so verify them live. The clerk explains process but never gives legal advice.

Stevens County Docket Filing Shift
A filed paper may not show up instantly. An e-filing change explains part of that gap. On January 8, 2026, the County Clerk switched from TrueFile to E-File Washington. That system runs on Odyssey File & Serve Cloud. The published cutoff is 3:00 p.m. for same-day filing when accepted. Anything later rolls to the next business day.
The FAQ warns that submitted papers can take one business day to appear in the electronic file. That lag says nothing about acceptance in your case. When timing matters, check the Register of Actions and call the County Clerk. E-filing is just the submission channel; Odyssey search is the public access layer on top.
Stevens County Docket Workload
Official 2025 Superior reports counted 1,540 Stevens filings. The docket mix broke down as 302 criminal, 579 civil, 167 domestic, 180 probate or guardianship, 13 adoption or parentage, 145 mental illness or alcohol, 89 juvenile dependency, and 65 juvenile offender matters. These are workload figures. They say nothing about any private case or its result.
That spread is why case-type filters earn their keep. One common name can surface in civil, domestic, criminal, probate, and judgment records alike. Before opening a result, match the location, year, and case code.

In this rural county, the courthouse layout matters. Superior records, District records, juvenile services, and courtrooms each occupy different rooms at one address. Confirm the office and window hours before you drive over.
Stevens County Court Dockets by City
The state directory sends Chewelah, Colville, Kettle Falls, and Springdale municipal service to District Court. Northport needs a closer venue check. OFM's April 1, 2024 estimates list these five as the incorporated places profiled here, and each card opens city-specific docket details.
Colville Docket Search
Population 4,955. Municipal matters route to District Court.
Chewelah Docket Search
Population 2,645. City and court records use different counters.
Kettle Falls Docket Search
Population 1,640. Court service routes to District Court.
Northport Docket Search
Population 295. Read the citation and confirm venue.
Springdale Docket Search

City hall may hold administrative records, but a city-labeled court case does not automatically live there. Ask the clerk named on the court directory and the ticket.
Map and Directions to the Stevens County Courthouse
Superior Court files are kept at the Stevens County Courthouse, 215 South Oak Street, in Colville. The building holds every local court under one roof by room: Superior Court sits in Room 209, the County Clerk in Room 206, District Court in Room 213, and Juvenile Court in Room 202. Knowing the room before arrival avoids being sent down the hall at a rural courthouse with reduced public windows.

Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
The public window is shorter than ordinary business hours, so arrive within those blocks. Superior Court itself keeps broader administration hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for scheduling questions. The county has not published a parking, security-screening, or terminal-location policy, so call ahead if a visit depends on a public terminal or a specific device restriction.
